What do you need to know to find the right foundation? What are some tips and tricks that will help you out? Let’s talk undertones.
Now, you may be wondering–Ava, what the hell are undertones? Here it is: there are three types of undertones. A person has neutral, cool or warm undertones to his or her skin.
Most people may not know this, but the colors you see around you are all a mixture of other colors, too. If you plan to paint an ocean scene, a seasoned artist would use more than one color. He or she would use green, black, white and navy. All those colors make up the ocean scene in the artist’s mind. The same thing goes for our skin.
People have either neutral, cool or warm undertones to their skin. That means everyone has different shades of color to their skin. If you are a person with neutral undertones, your skin is a mixture of pink, yellow or red. If you are a person with cool undertones, your skin is more pink. If you are someone with warm undertones, your skin is more yellow and red.
Sometimes foundations can be grouped according to undertone. Take a look at the tips below to figure out your undertone. This information will help you search for the right foundation.
Like I mentioned, if you have neutral undertones you have more pink, yellow or red to your skin. Most Caucasians have neutral undertones. So how do you know what undertone you have? You should glance at your wrist. If your veins are a purple or blue color, or if you have both blue and green veins, you have neutral coloring. If you have neutral undertones, it will be easier to find the right foundation for you. There are many foundations out there for people with neutral undertones to their skin.
Next, there are people with cool undertones. Hispanics and Asians have cool undertones to their skin. People with cool undertones also have more melanin to their skin. Melanin is the biological coloring that makes up a person’s dark skin color. People with a cool undertone have more pink coloring to their skin tone. If you have cool undertones to your skin, then you will have blue-green. Buy cool toned foundation if you have this skin type.
If you have warm undertones, your skin is darker, with yellow and red coloring. Most African-American women have a warm undertone because they have the highest percentage of melanin in their skin. Again, take a look at your wrist. If your veins are a green-olive in color then you have a warm undertone.
Finding the right foundation can be tricky, so keep searching until you get the right match. That is all for today’s post.
